Dancer, Musician and Composer
Charles Murrell is a composer-performer, educator, and advocate for justice and healing. His upbringing in both Western classical idioms and historically Black marching band traditions gave him the unique ability to use both his art and passion for activism throughout his college and adult life. He organized concerts, marches, community services projects all while serving on leadership boards for choirs and other organizations. While living in Boston, Charles has studied with various masters of Indigenous practices spanning Native American, Afro-Brazilian Folkloric, Haitian Folkloric, West African practices, including djembe philosophy and practice, community practices of grounded normativity, storytelling and of course, movement and music. He continues to share his love for art and activism as a teaching artist and presenter.
